Rottweiler Dog Breed- temperament and everything you need to know

The Rottweiler breed of dog is domestic dogs, regarded as medium to large or larger, originated in Germany. Rottweilers dog breed is descended from Molossus, a mastiff-type of dog and might be from the Italian Mastiff. The ancestors of Rottweilers accompanied the Romans over the Alps herding their cattle and protecting them from any harm. If there were not Rottweilers, then Germans were never able to survive the journey.

We know the Rottweiler Dog Breed in Germany as ‘Rottweiler Metzgerhund,’ which means ‘Rottweil Butchers’ because their primary use was to herd livestock and pull carts laden butchered meat to market. This trend continued till the mid-19 century, when the railways replaced driving.

When rail transport replaced cattle drives, Rottweilers have nearly become obsolete. We still use Rottweiler dogs in rescues as guard dogs or police dogs. Rottweilers are lovely pets. They’re incredibly dedicated, loyal, loving, intelligent, and protective. Their docile nature, paired with that great sense, makes them a simple dog breed to house train.

According to FCI standards, the Rottweiler breed is considered being the oldest breed. Its origin goes back to Roman times. They marched over the Alps with Roman legions protecting the humans, and they also drove their cattle. At the time of World War 1, there raised a demand for police dogs, and they were kept into consideration and then; after the First and Second world war, Rottweiler dogs performed various roles.

The Deutscher Rottweiler-Klub, the first Rottweiler Breed club, was founded on 13 January 1913 in Germany, and followed by creating Suddeutscher Rottweiler-Klub (SDRK, South German Rottweiler Club) on 27 April 1995 and eventually became IRK (International Rottweiler Club). The DRK Club counted 500 Rottweilers, and the SRDK club counted 3000 Rottweilers; both clubs’ aim was different.

In 1931, American Kernal Club officially recognized the Rottweiler dogs. Later on, in 1936, Rottweilers were exhibited in Britain at Crufts. Finally, in 1996, they opened a separate register for the Rottweiler breed. In fact, in the 1990s, the popularity of this breed became so high as it was the most highly registered breed in American Kennel Club.

Rottweilers Dogs have been selected for guarding and protection purposes and must keep this in mind at all times. Well-socialized rottweilers dogs get along nicely with people and other dogs, but males, in particular, can be aggressive and dominant. Rottweiler breed is an active, intelligent dog breed; they are entirely bold enough to act independently, so they need direction right from the lead.

We can also consider the personality of Rottweiler dogs need. Rottweilers love to be loved and often create a sense of dependency with their owners, that’s mean, and they also love to love their owners and other people around them. You also have to keep in mind that these are not the dogs to own if you don’t have proper time for them, as their separation anxiety will make them restless, destructive, angry Rottweiler, and aggressive.

Rottweiler dogs are also very judicious dogs, and people often see this as standoffishness or meanness. This personality trait is something rooted in Rottweiler’s breed history. Rottweiler breed was once a guard dog. They’re highly reserved for others infringing upon those they love, but that doesn’t mean they’re not friendly. They’re aware of the situation and know how they must react if they’re called to action.

Another thing to note about the Rottweiler breed personality is that they’re fearless. If they’re called to act or feel they need to protect those they love, they never hesitate.

Rottweiler Dogs usually weigh between 85 to 130 pounds. They stand approximately 22 to 27 inches tall. Rottweilers are large dogs, and their build is sleek and muscular. Their color is usually black with rust-colored markings and has a very short hair coat. Just like other dogs, Rottweilers are too born with tails. However, there are too naturally bob-tailed Rottweilers and Rottweiler with tails.

Therefore, people can also go for tail docking of their Rottweilers, in which some portion of the dog tail is removed. The most pleasing thing about this method is that it does not change your dog’s personality or temperament by any chance. Also, if you are concerned about your dog’s health, be stress-free because this process will not hurt your dog.

If we talk about Rottweiler temperament, this breed has a calm character that is only usually affected if they feel those they love (or themselves) are at risk. Rottweiler dogs are obedient and don’t throw any temper tantrums when they’re younger. If they do, it’s easily curbed because they respect authority.

Rottweiler dogs are lucky dogs and only become moody in their owner’s absence or if they feel a lack of affection. Rottweilers love to grunt, often confused by growling, but they have a low mumble that sounds threatening when it’s just them telling you they’re enjoying themselves.

agressive rottweiler

As stated before, they’re undoubtedly cautious of others and won’t let a stranger walk into their backyard without them making their personality known, but they’re calm around other dogs and people. This clear and assertive nature is often confused with Rottweiler angry reservations when, in reality, they’re perfectly comfortable in their environment and are simply keen on what’s unfolding before them.

Rottweiler dogs are healthy and very responsive dogs, but they also have some health problems like all breeds. Not all Rottweiler dogs will get any of these diseases, but it’s essential to be aware of them if you’re considering this breed. If you’re buying a Rottweiler puppy, find a good breeder who will show you health clearances for both your puppy’s parents.

Health clearances prove a dog has been tested for and cleared of a particular condition. In Rottweiler dogs, expect to see health clearances from the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) for hip dysplasia (with a score of fair or better), elbow dysplasia, and von Willebrand’s disease; from Auburn University for thrombophilia; and from the Canine Eye Registry Foundation (CERF) certifying that eyes are normal.

1. Hip Dysplasia: A genetic disease in which the thighbone doesn’t fit into the hip joint, and you can see pain and lameness on one or both legs of your dog. As this is something serious, when you’re buying a Rottweiler puppy, you may ask the breeder for proof that they have tested the parent for hip dysplasia. As this is a hereditary disease, environmental factors can worsen, such as rapid growth from a high-calorie diet or damages incurred from jumping or falling on slick floors.

2. Elbow Dysplasia: It is a hereditary malformation of the elbow joint. The doctor may recommend your pet surgery to correct the problem or medication to control the pain.

3. Aortic Stenosis/Sub-aortic Stenosis (AS/SAS): We sometimes see this common heart defect in Rottweiler dogs. This might cause fainting and even sudden death of your Rottweiler. It’s an inherited condition, but its mode of transmission isn’t known.

4. Panosteitis (Pano): A ‘growing pain’ occurs in Rottweiler puppies at four months. The most common symptom of this disease is lameness. All your Rottweiler puppy needs are full-time rest.

5. Allergies: Allergies are common in dogs and human beings. We must eliminate the specific type of foods discovered to be a cause of allergy from their diet. If something might cause, allergies touch dogs, flea powders, dog shampoos, or many other things. The medication for allergies depends on how severe the allergy is, and infection of Ear infection is a common side effect of these allergies.

Grooming and Trainability

The Rottweiler dogs can be dangerous in the hands of an unskilled or indifferent owner. They’re powerful enough to hurt someone if a bit of emotion is triggered, and their fearlessness allows them to act upon these impulses. While early socialization and proper obedience classes should curb this completely, they’re certainly more prone to aggression than almost any other dog breed.

If you’re looking for a purebred, you need to be sure your puppy is coming from a proper breeder (who is notable for producing well-bred puppies). Be sure that he can provide health clearances for the parents, and make sure that you meet them, as their personalities will often directly reflect that of their offspring.

Obedience classes are a must for Rottweiler Dogs. Paying for a professional to train your Rottweiler dog could be the difference between a fantastic companion and an introverted aggressive canine. The Rottweiler is intelligent enough to learn quickly and then take that knowledge to heart.

Early socialization is a considerable aspect of Rottweiler training. For a dog breed that’s naturally guarded, it’s important to break those boundaries by exposing them to environments, other people, and other dogs in their puppy years. If you familiarize them with the world, although they won’t lose their guard dog nature, they’ll be more comfortable in their setting, producing a better temperament.

Behavior with pets and dogs

Rottweiler with kids

If Rottweilers are raised with children, they must be like them. As they are big and so strong, they supervise them when they are around younger children. They are the best pets for houses with older children as older children know how to interact with dogs like them.

It is also essential to constantly teach your children how to approach and interact with dogs like Rottweilers. You also have to tell your children not to come to any dog while the dog is sleeping or eating stuff. Not even left your child alone with an unsupervised rottweiler.

When you raise your Rottweiler with other dogs and cats, they indeed get attached to them. They might also have some issues with strange dogs or adult ones introduced to them, but don’t worry for sure, with your training and timely help, they should swallow new friends.

Physical needs

  • Care: Rottweilers dogs need to live in the home with their people. If Rottweiler is left alone in a backyard all the time, they can become bored, destructive, and aggressive. Although they’re large, so they are inactive indoors.

A Rottweiler dog breed is a homebody, but as he gets aggressive towards other dogs and strangers, it might require a fenced yard that protects him from traffic.

Suppose your Rottweilers want to get out, so not even an electronic fence can keep him within the yard; this will also not prevent other people or animals from coming towards your property; Put a sign which advising other’s not to go close to your Rottweiler without asking you.

When training your Rottweiler dog, keep in mind that he grows on the mental stimulant. Rottweilers always like to grasp new things and are ambitious to please you. Rottweiler might be willful with a “why I should do this” attitude.

  • Feeding: You can keep your Rottweiler in shape by feeding him properly. It is an excellent practice to give him 4-10 cups of high-quality dry food daily, divided into two meals. While he is eating something, you must watch him make sure he is having his dinner. If you thought or you feel your Rottweiler is overweight, give him an eye test. You can quickly check his ribs if they are not visible, then your Rottweiler needs less food and more exercise.

Interesting Facts

Over the centuries in Germany, the ancestors of Rottweilers are driving the cattle to town for butchering. Also, to save their earned money from thieves, they tie the bag filled with cash around the neck of Rottweilers, as no one will ever try to snatch it from them. Rottweilers are brilliant and self-confident dogs.

As Rottweilers are more intelligent dogs, they have a natural tendency to choose one person from the family as a leader. However, they are equally loyal and friendly with every member of the family.

Since 1982, 714 Rottweiler dogs took part in fatal attacks on 365 children and 210 adults, killing 113 people. So pit bulls and Rottweilers both are about ten times likely to kill people more than the average dog, and because of this, you have to be very careful with these dogs.

The health broker is given a listing of benefits sought by anyone or a group coordinator. Exactly what a broker may is look for individuals or perhaps coordinators which in turn best match up those requirements. Most people I talk to are not aware that fast growth shampoos (of course without any sulfates, parabens or DEA) are even a thing. Hair styling enthusiasts are now able to possess longer hair and enjoy more alternatives. Undoubtedly worth checking out.

When you’re talking about hair loss, hair damage, avoiding scalp disorders, hair growth, hair care generally, very similar thoughts apply.

In most cases, you will want to stay away from hair treatments and products that contain chemicals like parabens, DEA and sulfates.

What is beneficial for your hair is healthy for your skin as well.

For obvious reasons your content here is so useful for so many reasons. It avoids the common mistakes and traps most fall into- utilizing ineffective alternatives. Keep up the great content!
